Call me old fashioned, call me uninformed, call me anti-global citizen - but, I have truely tried to understand how this project is (long term) going to benefit Missouri and I just don't see it! I think that it is a project that will put BIG money in the pockets of a few (Paul McKee, owner of McEagle Properties - for one and apparently some politicians) and I am personally, leary of the project and the comments made by both sides of the aisle. We know what China will IMPORT (anything and everything), but exactly what will the outgoing cargo be? Remember, we don't "make it here anymore". Here's an interesting link (copy and paste to browser) from 2008 that explains(?)the benefits(?)of a China Hub.

BUT, better yet, read about Paul McKee at the link below!

Quotes from St. Louis County Economic Council's web page - 11/01/10

Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill says, "I'd like once again for us to dream of a congestion problem at Lambert, she says." "I'd like to see direct international passenger flights again at Lambert." McCaskilll also believes we will see direct flights to China as soon as next year. (REALLY CLAIRE - I had no idea that there were SO many people flying out of St. Louis to China!)

Senator Bond agrees, that this potential deal will be a huge boost for the entire region. "The China hub makes St. Louis and the St. Louis region a player in the trade and investment and commerce with China." Bond points out that the interest from China shows that St. Louis has a strong future and this deal means more jobs and economic activity for the entire region. (Kit - or you saying that the ENTIRE state will benefit or just PAY for this idea?)

I see it as a very ONE SIDED deal to help China deliver "whatever" to the heartland of our country. While I'm busy reading labels and have become resolved to NOT buy anything from China - our politicians are selling us out, with our very own tax dollars. It appears to me that they are making deals with businessmen that are already funding their PRIVATE businesses with PUBLIC funds. I shouldn't be shocked. Folks, CALL YOUR REPS and DEMAND answers - NOW!

If you see it differently, explain it to me in "common sense".
