National chains post their nutritional information in all their chains because they operate in a variety of jurisdictions, some of which mandate nutrition information be posted, some of which do not. They simply find it cheaper to comply with one standard rather than two.

I definitely don’t support this being mandated. I think it’s a good idea (for health and safety reasons) for restaurants to be able to offer this information on demand (e.g. at McDonalds). However, only businesses that can afford to transition into putting calorie counts upfront (given that it’s so expensive to implement) should be allowed to do so at their own discretion.

I’m pretty sure all restaurants in America will soon be required to post calorie information per the new health care bill.
