These sorts of programs (like Cash for Clunkers) really don't help the environment. They only serve to support one sector of the economy while hurting others (and having a negligible--if not negative--impact on the environment). When will politicians learn that "buy Missouri electronics" ONLY helps the retailers of Missouri electronics, and actually hurts Missouri consumers (who spend more) and other Missouri retail (as Missourians have less money to spend elsewhere.) I think the point is more that a lot of electronics contain toxic metals, etc, that are removed before the scrap is sent to a landfill.
