I am an energy consultant currently working for a client in Ohio. In that state, energy conservation is a state mandate. And one of the ways they are hoping to achieve the standards set forth in the 2008 legislation is through an large appliance program for residential consumers. Why? Because this is a proven method to get people to lower their consumption of electricity. And if it stimulates the economy in the mean time, then its a win-win.

Picking winners and losers in the appliance industry. I would much rather have the blessed items, if there are to be any, meet a non-gov criteria. Consumer Reports, or the like? Of course, CR can get corrupted, too, but they also can be fired.
