Eapen, whether you find it reasonable to spend 100 per employee per year on food or not does not answer the question of whether this is proper for government agencies. Every dollar spent on the services provided by the government must be taxed away from the citizens of Missouri. Oversight that saves our taxpayers 4 million dollars per year is certainly worth considering.

Assuming that there are roughly 39,000 state employees, that works out to about $100/employee. You can imagine $4 million in food costs as the cost of buying your employees lunch 4-5 times a year. I don’t find that unreasonable.

Just poked around the website myself and found that vendors for “INSURANCE, FIN INST AND PROF REGISTRATION” included $254 for Bellacinos. I’m jealous now.
