I readily admit I have nothing by which to measure that statement by. It was just sort of a shout-out to the men and woman who protect my family and home in U. City.

How do you know you have a terrific fire department? It very well may be the best, but how would a citizen know that?

Not to be argumentative, but I believe that it is very difficult to measure these types of things. Is it response time? Incidence of fire [things being kept up to code]? Loss of life? Loss of property? Use of better building materials? Training of fire fighters?

I just don’t know what the measure of success is for a fire department.

This blog seems pretty civilized so I hope I don’t get any ‘you don’t like your fire department, then maybe they should let your house burn down!’ comments.
