Kindergarten is all about conforming and taking a nap at the same time as everyone else. In college, you're not in class for so many hours and you have to read a lot between classes. Age 5: Probably never been in institutional setting before. Probably will get very little out of school, spending more time being disciplined to conform to behavioral expectations, than any learning. Kindergarten = Day care with the explicit function of teaching the sole lesson of "this is how you sit still for X hours" Age 18: Never done office type work before. Probably used to coasting by, possibly talking back to teachers, etc. Employer: Oh you have a BA? you must know how to sit still. Neither college nor kindergarten impart any factual knowledge per se.
