ditto. having mogov bureaucrats dicking around in video games is one of the cheapest possible use of their time.
my only concern is whether increasingly internet-savvy mogov employees will make internet sales tax more or less likely.

The marginal cost of "buying an island" in Second Life is minimal. To have this virtual presence for an entire year will cost about what it would take to run a recruitment ad in the KC Star or the STL Post Dispatch for only a few days. With the dearth of good new ideas we usually experience from government, criticizing one good idea and suggesting that something else is better seems like really small time thinking. Why not do both 3d virtual world AND Facebook?

All of the things I've ever done on Second Life have been free (free in real dollars, not SL Lindens).

The beauty of the SL recruitment is that you're really only seeing fairly highly tech-savvy people; it's like a pre-screen for your potential applicants. It's like ANYONE can do Facebook. Takes a special IT-type to do SL.
