In this troubled economy in my neighborhood, Canton, Ohio has decided that they can replace lost revenue with red light and speed cameras. We will see if they pull dirty tricks to increase the tickets handed out by these new cameras as many other cities do. I was he recipient of a recession speeding ticket. When I went to court, there were about 300 other such recipients. EVERY SINGLE ONE was slapped with a fine and costs, not one was found not guilty. This was even with one LEO testifying that he was inside of his car running RADAR, then he changed his story and said that he was outside of his car (not my case). It is all bout keeping us safe, not about the money.

It's really shameful, though understandable that traffic tickets volume do increase during economic recessions. At the same time, it's contradictory as well. People need to understand something: when times are tough, cops are preying, and most likely pitiless. They are out for their quotas, and they chase every single penny out there. Suspicious cars get pulled out, and there's a much drastic control on the marked speed limit in certain zones. This unfortunately has many consequences, among others the famous DWB violation, arbitrary arrests, and sometimes much more sinister cases or circumstances. The bottom line is: the city needs funds too, to cope with the financial harship and economic downturn. It's just ridiculous that it has to raise its revenues this way, almost like cheating... But the real message here goes the drivers. Keep in mind that extra cautious measures are required when on the wheel. With this said, just be on your guards, and remember that a word, to the wise is enough.
